So heading to work I was listening to the radio like I do on most days and I overheard the radio hosts talk about the top ten trilogies of all time.
One, the girl said something about Harry Potter....I guess she forgot that they had like 40 movies for that series. Then they had to audacity to read that the Jurasic Park trilogy was number 2? Immediately you lose all credibility if you think that trilogy beats the original Star wars, Back to the future, hell even The new Planet of the Apes trilogy.
So I decided to write my own top ten trilogy series, based on only the ones I've seen. So immediately and I'm sorry, I've never had the pleasure of watching the Godfather movies. (I know, beat me with a spatula and throw me off a roof, I'm sorry!)
Let's get started.
10. Bourne series: Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum.
Matt Damon plays an CIA assassin who cant remember anything. This series had great action, amazing chase scenes, a good plot, and a great cast. You cant go wrong with watching the Good Will Hunting star kicking the hell out of other assasins all the while trying to figure out who the hell he is.
9. Rise of the planet of the apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the planet of the apes:
If you dont like a planet population dying off so that super intelligent Apes could take over, I dont know if This series is for you. But I'm a selfish bastard and it's for me! I love this trilogy. Not so much the first movie, but the next two movies pushes this into my top ten. Ceasar played by Andy Serkis (amazing actor, although I will never bow to Snoke!) absolutely pulls off an amazing character.
8. Alien, Aliens, Aliens 3:
These are the type of movies that change the way movies are made. Going from a horror genre sci movie to horror action, it just pure amazement. From single alien picking off Ripleys crew one by one to all out battle by Colonial marines against the Xenomorphs, it just cant get any better than that. Aliens is still to this day one of my favorite movies of all time. And it only makes this list because of the impact of the first two movies. Much like most trilogies, at least one of the films doesnt live up to the rest. But holy shit those two movies are great.
7. Avengers, Avengers Age of Ultron, and Avengers Infinity war:
Much like the Aliens movies and how the last movie wasnt so good, this trilogy of movies has that epic fail as its second installment with Age of Ultron. But let's take it back a notch. The first Avengers movie was fans dream come true. A group of heroes from other movies joining together in one film, and its good?! Hell yeah. After the big team up in the first film, the failing of Ultron, we finally get Infinity war. That movie was probably my favorite in the MCU, it was a ten year lead up to this point, and marvel delivered in epic fashion.
6. Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises:
Chris Nolans trilogy is still DCs best work with Batman. Christian Bale just was top notch in the series and he had great co stars who played amazing protagonists, and secondary players who made the trio of films great. From Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul, to The Joker and Two face, to Bane and Talia Al Ghul in Dark knight rises, they all played their part making this a great trilogy. But we all know the Dark Knight was the best of these movies, Heath Ledger played his part perfectly and we will always judge future Jokers because of this.
5. Back to the Future, Back to the Future 2, Back to the future 3:
Come on, these movies were fun and entertaining and still hold up today. Marty Mcfly and his family probs, learning his lesson and changing the past for the good of him and Doc Brown is just classic. Great Scott! The film is littered with good quotes and it's a trilogy that wont disappear with time. Biff was an excellent protagonist throughout all three films, and he is severely underrated as one of the all time pain in the ass villains. I want fully into the western one, but the story was all tied together neatly and ended nicely, except for Biffs relatives who all seem to manage to end up in shit.
4. Raiders of the lost Arc, Temple of Doom, Last Crusade:
Who doesnt love Indiana Jones!? Great adventure stories with good actors. Again, these movies still hold up. Although many dont like Temple of Doom, I do. It was the first Indiana Jones movie I saw, so it has a little place in my heart. Plus it had Data from Goonies in it, who doesn't like the little failing inventor? Shut your mouth and just agree that you like him! You cant go wrong with this trilogy. Harrison Ford is amazing and who can forget that epic scene where one of the henchmen went nuts swinging his sword around like a circus performer and Indiana just pulled a gun nonchalantly, and unimpressed To shoot him. Good stuff.
3.Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Toy story 3:
Pixar really knows how to make a movie and they made that evidently clear with this animated trilogy. We all know Woody, Buzz, Jesse and the gang. We all fell in love with these amazing characters to infinity and beyond. From the beginning where Woody was jealous and Buzz was naive, to their friendship to the end. From introductions of Jesse and Bullseye, to the evil child toy destroying maniac Sid. All three movies had amazing story telling and character development. It also had one of the most heart wrenching scenes of all time in part 3 when we all think they all will die together by fire, talk about dark story telling, you cant get worse than potentially that. But hey, it ends on a sad but good way.
2. Fellowship of the Ring, the Two Towers, and Return of the king:
Lord of the rings was just an epic series of movies that went through the motions of political, adventure, friendship, and a war movie combined into one. The visuals were amazing. The music was unbelievably great. The story was undeniably wonderful. Frodo's sacrifice of his way of life for something bigger that impacted the world around him, to Sam protecting his best friend at all costs. From the war small battles with orcs, to the end of the war near Mordor, you just can't go wrong with watching these fifty five hour movies. Yeah. They were long. My only gripe was that the final movie, I believed it ended in like six times, and it just wouldn't stop. But it's a minor annoyance, it needed to give us the lowdown of all the characters we followed and loved to show that things would be ok I guess.
1. A new Hope, Empire Strikes back, Return of the Jedi:
The story of Luke Skywalker and his adventures in space will always be number one in my heart. From the effects, the to plot, to the music, this is one of best trilogies of all time. It might not be your number one, but it has all the ingredients of epicness. From the opening scenes of Darth Vader and his imperial stormtroopers entering Princess Leias ship to the ending where Darth Vader redeems himself and helps his son rid the galaxy of Emperor Palpatine. It's just amazing. Who doesnt like space battles against moon sized space stations? I do! Or gigantic machines completely kicking the crap of the outmatched rebellion? Hell yes! The battles of Hoth, Endor, and Yavin IV were great in all ways, they were part of the war, but then you get to the subplots of Vader being Luke's father, Obi Wan Kenobi being Former friends with Vader and now teacher to Luke (although let's be honest, how much did he actually teach Luke.). AT-ATs, X-wing and TIE dog fights, Han Solo being a cocky prick, Giant space monsters, Imperial Star Destroyers. Admiral Ackbar (Its a trap!), come on, what's not to love about any of this?
So there you have it. My top ten trilogies in my opinion that I've seen. So let us know what your favorites are or maybe we have the same list. Comment below and tell us. Do it. Do it now!
